CELEBRATING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE
Today (February 11th), we join the global celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established by UNESCO and UN-Women to recognize the invaluable contributions women and girls make in science and technology.
At DONE Lab, we are proud to honor the incredible women who are leading the charge in additive manufacturing. Their passion, innovation, and expertise are not only advancing technology but also shaping the future of science.
In celebration of this day, we invited our women makers to share their thoughts on how their work contributes to the future of technology and science, as well as advice for those who aspire to pursue careers in these fields.
1. How do you see your work contributing to the future of technology or science in your area?
“The women of science at DONE Lab play a key role in bridging academia and industry, driving improvements in factory processes and the development of new products that advance our national industries. Beyond generating ideas that secure research funding, they actively contribute to the academic, scientific, and industrial communities by developing new knowledge, publishing cutting-edge research, and fostering innovation. Their efforts propel technological progress, ensuring that scientific advancements translate into real-world applications that benefit both industry and society. “
“Fostering synergy between academia and industry to drive meaningful progress through technological innovation, cutting-edge development and the translation of theoretical knowledge into practical applications.”
“My work contributes to the future of injection moulding technology by optimising production processes and improving product quality. Using Moldex3D, defects can be predicted and solved before production, and waste, costs and development time can be reduced. This drives innovation in the plastics industry, enabling more efficient and sustainable designs. I aim to continue improving these processes to make manufacturing more precise, economical, and environmentally responsible.”
“As a Product Designer and Researcher at DONE Lab, I believe that exploring new development and production methods, aligned with creativity, can challenge conventional processes and enhance innovation in the industry.”
2. What advice would you give to women who want to pursue a career in science or technology?
“A career in science and technology is still challenging to pursue, so my advice is to first find your vocation—what you truly enjoy doing. Then, look for a place and a team that support your growth, allowing you to expand into new horizons and opportunities while still enjoying the process of doing science. Most importantly, science requires patience, perseverance, and the willingness to try over and over again. Be resilient, stay motivated and curious, and value the guidance of people from different generations and fields of expertise to help solve problems and create new innovations.”
“Believe in yourself—no one knows everything from the start, but learning is part of the journey. Don’t be afraid to take on challenges, ask questions, and carve your own path. And most importantly, stay true to your values and treat others with the same respect you expect.”
“The advice I would give to women who want to pursue a career in science or technology is to believe in their potential and not let stereotypes or challenges put them off. The scientific and technological field needs great ideas and perspectives, and the presence of women is fundamental to driving innovation. Never stop learning. The path may be challenging, but the contribution that you can make to the world is worth every effort.”
“Embrace strengths, continually develop skills, seek support from positive networks and approach challenges with a mindset of growth and opportunity.”
Thank you to all the women who play a vital role in advancing science, strengthening knowledge, and driving innovation forward.
