P21 - New Assembly Tools Concept

The project New Assembly Tools Concept emerged to solve an identified need for a new concept of assembly tools to be integrated into a standard workstation, which incorporates a platform for the intelligent communication between the devices and the production process. Main target consisted in the development of an assembly tool entirely based in additive manufacturing technologies. Other aims consisted in lead time and related costs reduction, while also increasing flexibility in regarding to the industrialization of new products. The developed solution resources to fused deposition modelling (FDM) as selected additive manufacturing technology. Process design versatility and possibilities are combined with a material with electrostatic discharge properties, to provide a functional and innovative approach to solve a current issue.

 

DONE Lab integrates the project as supporter for the development in terms of engineering design with poka-yoke strategies, functional prototyping additive manufacturing for testing in various stages of product development, and also for the manufacturing of the final product.

 

This project was developed between July 2015 and July 2018, in the framework of the R&D Programme Innovative Car HMI (iFactory), based in collaborative partnership between Bosch Car Multimedia S.A. and University of Minho.
