INNOVCAR – P03 LiDAR – Light Detection and Ranging
The project LiDAR – Light Detection and Ranging emerged with the purpose of contributing to the progression of autonomous driving, by means of monitoring solutions integrated in the vehicle. Monitoring of the external surroundings of the vehicle is possible with LiDAR sensors. The operating method of this type of sensor is based on laser detectors, that allow a perception and verification of the external space, even in precarious conditions of visibility. This monitoring enables recognition of the form, distance and velocity of a particular object, person or animal. Project outcomes include state-of-the-art contributions in diversified areas such as additive manufacturing, mechanical and multi-physics simulation, thermal management, optics, and advanced processing algorithms.
In this context, DONE Lab integrates the project as a strong supporter in terms of iterative engineering design, additive manufacturing of functional prototypes for testing, and also for fabrication of specific components of the final product, namely housing, chassis and all structural elements which sustain the optical component.
This project was developed in the framework of the R&D Programme Innovative Car HMI (INNOVCAR), based in collaborative partnership between Bosch Car Multimedia S.A. and University of Minho.
